Leisure centre to power nearly half of electricity needs through solar panels
Breckland Leisure Centre in Thetford is set to power nearly half its electricity needs through solar energy.
Its new solar panels are expected to supply 45pc of the centre's electricity needs.
They will cut carbon emissions by nearly 38 tonnes annually and deliver significant cost savings.
The project was delivered in partnership with Parkwood Leisure and Parkwood Project Management.
Similar panels at Dereham Leisure Centre saved more than £13,000 in their first six months of operation.
The fully funded project was led by Breckland Council.
Councillor Tristan Ashby, executive member for health and communities at Breckland Council, said: 'Following the works at Dereham Leisure Centre last year, I am so pleased that we have now successfully installed solar panels at Breckland Leisure Centre, extending our efforts to make Thetford and our district more energy efficient.
'By harnessing renewable energy, we're not only cutting operational costs but reducing the centre's carbon footprint.
'This project shows our continued commitment to the long-term sustainability of public leisure and I'm excited to see both leisure centres make a lasting positive impact on our communities.'
